Nursery Assistant

Do you love being outdoors, love plants and nature?  Here’s the chance to develop your career where you do this while you make the world a better place, one plant at a time.   Join the team at Proteaflora Nursery as a Nursery Assistant and learn how we grow and nurture plants that look beautiful and help us all have healthier and happier lives.

Nursery Assistant Role:
The role of Nursery Assistant includes work in all areas of our nursery operation – looking after our Motherstock plants, creating new plants in our propagation season; potting up young plants into bigger pots and helping them grow into happy and healthy plants. As a member of our team, you will learn all about Protea plant health and care, including nutrition, watering and pruning, up to the point that they are ready for sale and shipping off to our customers.

Are physically fit and love being active
Are happy to work outdoors in all weather – rain, hail or shine 
Have a passion for nature and plants
Care about people and work well in a team
Have a positive outlook 
Have an eye for detail 
Are alert to what is going on around you
Can create and develop new ideas 
Have good problem-solving skills
Have a curiosity about the world around you
Have a strong work ethic and are able to work independently once you are fully trained
Have successfully completed Year 12 (or equivalent) and are able pick up new skills quickly
Are computer literate and comfortable working with various types of software  
Have a current full driver’s licence

Work Hours and Remuneration:
Nursery operating hours are from 7:30am to 4pm, Mondays to Saturdays. Staff work on a 5-day roster basis.
Your pay and other entitlements are based on the Nursery Award and will depend on your qualifications and experience.  Wages for qualified staff start at $40,200 p.a. plus superannuation.
We supply uniforms and protective clothing to all our staff.
